On July 23, 2026, Dr. Shamsey Oloko will give an online keynote on "Training the Mind – How Mindfulness, Critical Thinking, and the Philosophical Art of Living Can Contribute to Greater Self-Leadership" as part of the Mindfulness Salon hosted by the MBSR Association.
Participation is free and requires prior registration via this link.
Description
In times of constant change, growing complexity, and artificial intelligence, self-leadership is becoming a key competency. Anyone who wants to lead themselves or others effectively needs not only methods, expertise, or efficiency, but above all the ability to consciously perceive, understand, and clearly direct their own mind.
Mindfulness holds a special place in this. It is more than stress reduction: it creates the inner space in which we can even begin to notice our thoughts, emotions, and automatic patterns of reaction. In this way, it forms the foundation of any deeper self-leadership.
Building on this foundation are two further disciplines of mental training that are rooted above all in Western philosophy: critical thinking and the philosophical art of living. Mindfulness opens the space of awareness, critical thinking helps us examine our convictions and interpretive frameworks, and the philosophical art of living supports us in developing a resilient inner stance.
This Mindfulness Salon shows how the art of self-leadership can be cultivated through regular training of the mind. It combines impulses from mindfulness practice, ancient wisdom traditions, and philosophical reflection into a holistic approach for greater clarity, inner stability, and conscious action.
After the keynote, there will be ample time for a shared Q&A and practical exercises in critical thinking.
